So right about the time you think you’ve got it all figured out and you’re going along minding your own business, stuff happens. You know, stuff you never planned. Stuff that shakes you out of your nice, smooth path where you were perfectly happy and now all you want to do is cry and scream and rail at the universe for your misfortune. But let’s face it, no one gets through this life without hitting a few potholes. Granted, some are craters and some are bottomless sinkholes where you can’t see the top let alone imagine how you’re going to crawl back out.
The funny thing is no matter what catastrophe has befallen you, life goes on. It’s not that the universe doesn’t sympathize, it just has to keep moving because it doesn’t have a pause button. You can take a temporary time out to catch your breath but then you have to regroup and jump back in. It doesn’t seem right. Here you are suffering and it’s not your fault and you deserve to wallow in the black pool of despair. Unfortunately, the universe doesn’t have much patience for that kind of martyr which is a good thing otherwise we’d all be up for sainthood.
I wish I had a foolproof plan for getting through these life changing moments but all I’ve got is the absolute certainty that things will work out one way or another. The sun will rise and the sun will set and in-between, life will go on. And sometimes the only thing we can do is look the universe in the eye . . . and laugh our heads off.
